As someone who works extensively with Large Language Models (LLMs) like GPT-4 and Claude, I’ve seen both their impressive capabilities and glaring limitations firsthand. The narrative that “AI will replace programmers” has gained particular momentum, fueled by demos of AI systems generating complex code and solving programming challenges. But here’s the reality check:

While these tools are revolutionary, they’re far from the job-replacing juggernauts that headlines might have you believe

In fact, after spending countless hours working with these systems, I’ve become increasingly convinced that they’re better viewed as sophisticated assistants rather than potential replacements for human developers.
